In line with our club values and philosophy, we are pleased to confirm that we will be working closely with mental health experts, Working Well.
With the current backdrop of COVID 19 and the situation we find ourselves in, the health and wellbeing of our playing and management group across the whole club is fundamental. Mental Health awareness needs to become part of our everyday life and we are excited to be able to learn from the significant experience and passion of Amber Cowburn and her company. A cross section from both senior and junior age groups will initially be attending an online workshop which will aim to enhance awareness and provide us with strategies to support each other.
In addition to her role at Working Well, Amber is also a proud founding trustee of the Invictus Trust charity, managed and launched a national parliamentary policy campaign for YoungMinds, founded Student Minds Cambridge, and is an experienced and accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructor.
Amber commented, "Mental health awareness is so vital because we all have mental health, just like we have physical health - and the two are so closely linked. We tend to only think about mental health when somebody is struggling, but it is so important that we all look after our mental wellbeing proactively. I strongly believe that doing some basic training in mental health awareness equips people with knowledge, strategies, and confidence. This means they can support and signpost others when they need help, be kinder to themselves and look after their own wellbeing, and can understand mental health as a whole scale that exists in us all.
It is so brilliant to see such a prominent rugby club prioritise mental health, and it is a pleasure for my company Working Well to be providing training to the coaches and staff team at Cambridge Rugby Club. Sports clubs are such important places that provide a sense of connection and community for players, coaches, and the fans. They can be really powerful spaces to promote positive mental wellbeing, and decrease stigma around male mental health."
