Our next piece in the recruitment jigsaw comes in the shape of experienced scrum half, Darryl Veenendaal.
With nearly 250 championship games under his belt, Darryl will become a valuable asset both on and off the field. He joins us from a player coaching role at Ampthill RFC where he helped steer the teams attack. His overall game awareness and tactical appreciation will complement our playing philosophy.
This is a really significant signing and gives us another experienced player in the spine of our team. We are excited about Darryl supporting some of our younger decision makers and helping drive the teams attacking strategy. We are now in the enviable position of having 3 quality scrum halves at the club, all of whom will drive the levels of performance.
I’m very excited to be joining Cambridge and starting what is a new chapter in my life. After 11 years as a full-time professional rugby player I’m able to continue playing and coaching at a high level while starting a new career outside of rugby.
After consulting close friends Lawrence Rayner and club legend Stef Liebenberg, it was an easy decision to join what I think is a club with huge potential and tradition.
I feel this is echoed in the players and staff that Richie has brought in over the summer and bodes well for the direction he wants to move the club towards.
