Message from Richie Williams:
Following on from Mondays new signings announcement, we have added a front row forward with a Junior Rugby World Cup medal to our squad. This is an area in which we have had to reinforce from the beginning of last season, due to Ramaz Rukhadze, Matt Meek and Dave Langley all moving on. Jack Culverhouse who was injured for the majority of the season has joined the police force and will not be available every week.
Tight Head prop Billy Walker is an ex England U20 World Cup Winner, having represented Saracens and more recently Nottingham RFC in the Championship. Billy is a proven high level scrummager who we think will relish his time at the club. Last season our scrum improved immeasurably during the season with some excellent performances from young props Henry Peck, Ben Ibrahim and Sam Copeland. Dan Richmond has done a fantastic job in a short space of time with our set piece, and we are already looking ahead to see more progress this season. It’s no coincidence that the games in which we were successful, were the games when we were able to launch off our set piece. Billy is someone that I know will relish the challenge of National 1 rugby.
Walker added ‘I’m very pleased to have signed at Cambridge RUFC. It’s a great club with good ambition and clear direction. I am very much excited about contributing on and off the field and confident of a successful year ahead.’
