Dear Mini & Youth Parent,

With the RFU’s announcement last night of NO return to competitive rugby for all Clubs (below Championship level), I thought it may be a good idea to write and tell you what this means for Cambridge Rugby Club Mini & Youth section.

Please see the RFU article here - https://www.englandrugby.com/news/article/return-to-competitive-play-in-202021-delayed-until-january

We will continue to provide rugby sessions for our boys and girls every Sunday morning at Volac Park. Currently we are at Stage D on the RFU return to rugby roadmap, and will continue to work under these guidelines, unless we are otherwise advised.

As an addition to this guidance our Director of Rugby, Richie, has expressed that no contact in training should take place at the current time. We will advise further when we, as a Club, deem it appropriate to bring in contact training to the sessions.

The sessions on a Sunday will be fun filled. It’s about getting the ball in hand to our players and giving them the opportunity to thrive and have fun. That’s it.

There may be a bit of fitness thrown into the mix for the older age groups, but in general we want to ensure that everyone leaves the club smiling, having had a good time.

Also, further great news from Richie – “The senior section of the club and 1st XV in particular, will look to continue with their M&Y engagement moving forwards. With this in mind, the 1st XV will be training on Sunday 18th October and then link up to support all of the age groups in their training sessions. This will then continue in November and December.” – This means added value to our Sunday sessions.

Touch rugby is allowed, and, as mentioned in the guidelines, we will be arranging friendly Ready4Rugby matches v local opposition. The first session of this type is scheduled for Sunday 11th October v Shelford RFC.

More details to follow on this.

One thing to be clear, however, is if any age group does not deem it safe to take part, and if you, as a parent or guardian, feel any concerns on the participation for your son/daughter/child, in organized Ready4Rugby days v other clubs, then please let us know.

The Club has an official COVID Officer, who will be present on Sundays at training, and will be assisting us all with ensuring everything we do is COVID compliant.

Additional Measures in place

  • Anyone entering indoors MUST wear a mask. If not, you will NOT be served and asked to put your mask on.
  • Everyone entering the Club House MUST have actioned Track & Trace. NHS Track & Trace QR Codes will be located around the premises and you are urged to download the NHS App to be able to use these. Here is a link to the NHS app:  https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/nhs-covid-19/
  • The bar will be open offering a limited range of drinks for consumption outside.
  • Food will be available to eat outside.
  • One way systems are to be observed and adhered to.
  • Please remember to social distance at all times and regularly use the hand sanitising stations.
  • No rugby equipment except clean bibs, balls and cones will be used for rugby training (no hit shields, tackle bags etc).
  • Please refrain from touching the rugby equipment if you are not involved with the training session.
  • No try ons at the Club shop.
  • If you begin to feel unwell or start to show Covid-19 symptoms then please inform a club official immediately and return home via the safest means possible with minimal contact with other people and areas of the club.

Obviously, things change with this virus, and we will update you when we have further news. It is a changing landscape, so please bear with us.

The Coronavirus has struck everyone hard, and we are doing our best to survive, just like every Club up and down the country.

Your support is paramount to this survival and we are hoping to come out of this stronger as a community and as a Club.

Please do your utmost to register your son/daughter/child and action the requirements to become a member.

If you have any concerns, or questions on this, email myself at my.chairman@crufc.co.uk or Deborah at membership@crufc.co.uk

Thank you for your continued support and see you on Sundays at the Club.

M&Y Chair, CRUFC
