Dear Member

On more than one occasion over the past few months I had planned to send a member’s note only for the intended content to be made redundant by another Coronavirus update. In November there appeared to be a brightening light at the end of the rugby tunnel with the prospect of competitive rugby at all levels starting in February. Unfortunately we now know that will not be the case and a return to even training will not be for a little while yet.

The effect of this pandemic has had far reaching effects and without trivialising those I am conscious of the stress and uncertainty the lack of physical sport has affected all of our players from the youngest minis through to our senior players. I hope that the efforts made by Richie Williams, Nick Dance and all of their support team have been recognised, and I am sure they will continue now with added purpose .

Whilst Richie and the committee would have preferred to have been dealing with the challenges of running an active rugby club, this ‘downtime’ has allowed more time to focus on the future of the club and improving the connection between all parts. Investing our resources into developing our coaches & players at all levels has been a priority and will continue to be so.

Throughout much of last year we were able to keep the club operating with the help of the many volunteers at all levels and our senior rugby management team. On behalf of the committee I would like to say a very big ‘thank you’., your efforts coupled with the committee’s management means we are well placed and ready for a resumption of rugby whenever that may be.

Moving forward I believe clubs like ours will prosper as we have used the last 9 months wisely, seeing it as a development opportunity both for ‘on field’ & ‘off field’ activities. Cambridge is the leading rugby club in the eastern region and will continue to be so with the support it receives from you the members together with supporters & sponsors.

Happy new year & I look forward to rugby returning to Volac Park as soon as we are able to allow.

Stay safe & keep well
