M&Y CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
As we close down Mini & Youth Training for the Festive season, I thought this may be an opportune time to write to all our valued members with a small update on how things are progressing this season, and details on more exciting plans for 2022.
Well, what a season so far?
Despite the pandemic we have managed to complete rugby matches/training every weekend since the beginning of September 2021, making sure that our M&Y players continue to develop and learn their game in a fun and safe environment.
Our Colts are in the next round of the National Cup (Rd 4) – playing Bury St Edmunds RFC on Sunday January 16th 2022 (keep this date free in your diary), and our Mini & Youth sections continue to grow and improve.
All age groups have had lots of fun, lost of rugby, and some awesome results v other Clubs in the region.
All our other Youth Age Groups (U16s, U15s, U14s and U13s) have all had some great success stories and continue to train and play hard.
The Rubies go from strength to strength under the leadership of Sam Sandercock, after a bumpy start to the season, and all eyes now turn to start moving this forward to launch our own first ever CRUFC Women’s team, whilst looking to build numbers for the younger age groups.
Our Mini’s age groups have all (bar U9s and U10s) a Saturday 1st XV experience. For our HOME 1st XV matches, the age groups have a fun training session, form a tunnel for the 1st XV to enter the pitch, have a run around at half time, and get involved with 1st XV photos at the end of the match.
All we have had back is great reviews, and hopefully both the children and the parents have enjoyed themselves
In the Community we have started to build further ties and bring the sport of Rugby to schools that may not have the resources to offer this to their students, and we have plans to build with more Youth establishments.
If any of our M&Y parents have suggestions of schools that we could help with their Rugby programmes, please email myself at mailto:community@crufc.co.uk
Our 1st XV are placed 5th in the 3rd Level of England Rugby which is a fantastic achievement, beating the likes of Rosslyn Park.
We are officially in the Top 30 of Rugby Clubs in the country – amazing and awesome.
It will be an exciting 2nd part of the season, so please ensure to follow the team and be part of the journey.
It would be amazing to see further support from our M&Y section on match days.
For 1st XV fixtures, please click here – CRUFC 1st XV Fixtures
All members receive discount on entry and drinks at the Club.
If you would like to have lunch before and 1st XV match with friends, just drop me a line - mailto:my.chairman@crufc.co.uk
I could not miss out on the opportunity to mention our The Mighty 3rd XV. Despite 1 minor blip they stand atop of their respective league going into 2022. There are a number of parents and coaches from the M&Y section who represent the 3rd XV on a Saturday afternoon – so any support you can give would be much appreciated – just keep an eye on http://www.crufc.co.uk for further information.
EVENTS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN 2022
Lots to look forward to in 2022, and here a few things to keep an eye out for (more to come):
- Colours and Ties Saturday (Date TBC)
- Holiday Camps (starting in Feb 2022 for Half Term)
- Age Group Tours (possibly)
- M&Y Festival 2022 (Date TBC)
- M&Y Social BBQ (Date TBC) – end of season
+ much more
From 1st January 2022 ALL age groups now play under the guise of their respective rules. For the 1st half of this season we have been playing down (e.g. U10s have been playing U9s laws/rules), due to COVID.
Also, our U7s finally start to play fun matches v local opposition – this is something that has not been allowed yet….. so lots to look forward to in 2022.
SUMMARY
So a fantastic season so far for all our members, which only promises to improve. Our M&Y numbers are exceeding expectation, we have upskilled coaches and parents with various RFU and First Aid courses.
A HUGE thanks to all those Coaches and Volunteers that give their time up on a Sunday morning to run, manage, oversee and protect their respective age groups and players.
As a Rugby Club we continue to thrive on assistance & help from our Volunteers. Without them we are nothing.
We desperately have a few Volunteer slots to fill, some of which are very important.
I appeal to all our parents & members, if you have a few hours free per week and would be eager to get involved supporting Cambridge RFC then please get in touch.
