Off the back of a memorable National Cup run in which the Cambridge Colts reached the last 8, we have decided to integrate a number of the final year Colts into senior rugby.
Under the guidance of coaches Sam Miller and Matt Waring, it has been great to witness the players develop into a cohesive team. To further enhance their development and to align with our playing pathway, we have selected 6 players who will now train with the 1st XV for the remainder of the season.
This transition will then allow the players to get some exposure of senior rugby before September. We also aim to co-ordinate the players game time alongside the Eastern Counties U18 Cup which remains a priority for the squad.
The 6 players selected are as follows;
- Oscar Coppins- Back Row and captain of the Colts.
- Reeve Brighty- Back Row and member of the Northampton Saints U18.
- James Campos-Bell- Second Row.
- Oli Harvey- Scrum Half
- Ben Miller- Centre/Back 3
- Will Paul- Full Back
Sam Miller Colts Head Coach commented ‘I have been really please with how the entire squad have committed to the group this year and it has translated into some really strong performances on the field. There has been some well deserved representative recognition for the boys with Reeve and Ashton forming part of the Northampton Saints U18 Squad and Oscar, James, Danny, Felix, Billy & Ben all representing Eastern Counties as well as a significant proportion gaining Cambridgeshire honours. This transition is the next step to help the development of some of the older lads. Our hope is that they continue to learn individually and bring a lot of what the 1st XV squad are doing back to the Colts for the remainder of the season.'
