We are looking forward to welcoming you all back to Cambridge Rugby for our 99th year!
I thought I would take the opportunity to write and give you a brief preview of the season ahead and some of the changes that are underway at the club this summer.
You will recall that in 2018, the re-development of the club’s facilities was kick-started with the addition of four unisex changing rooms, officials changing room, two physio / medical rooms and the club gym. A year later, in 2019, we completed phase one of the driveway and parking project which made a significant difference to our club access on our busy weekends of playing action across the whole club.
After the pandemic forced break, I am now very pleased to announce that this summer we will restart various projects to upgrade the club’s facilities. Phase two of the driveway and parking project has already started, which will provide the much-needed expansion of parking facilities and associated improvements to the driveway. Later in the summer we will also see the replacement of the downstairs windows, including the addition of an external food service hatch beside the existing kitchen space. This is just the start of what will be a busy twelve months of club developments as we build up to our Centenary year, so keep an eye out for more announcements.
On the pitch, pre-season training is underway, and you will see several announcements over the next couple of weeks detailing how we have strengthened the playing squad and support staff across all senior sides in preparation for the new season. I am delighted that most of the 1st XV squad have been retained, keeping a core group of players together is so important for stability and progression, as we target the top of the table.
As ever, the development of the club is built around our community and our many partners who enjoy the matchday experience. We have put together plans to expand our offering on a matchday with a community area (activities for children to enjoy), more outside bars around the ground (a quicker pint or prosecco!) and expanding the variety of our food options too!
The 2022-23 season is set to be a great year for the club, and we would like to invite you to join us for our popular matchday lunches. An overview of our hospitality timings along with a fixture list of our home games can be found here. I would encourage you to book quickly to support the club and to avoid missing out!
To book a lunch table simply email events@crufc.co.uk with the games you would like to attend, and we will coordinate the rest for you.
I look forward to welcoming you back to the club for the new season and hope you have a great summer. In the meantime, I would encourage you to view this video that we think shows the club off well.
Kind regards,
Rob Dean
Chairman – Cambridge Rugby
