Cambridge RUFC 83 - Ampthill Ladies 10

CRUFC Women put on a strong display and showed their ongoing improvement with some great running rugby against a determined Ampthill RFC side.

Back in September/October 2022 CRUFC only managed to take a limited number of players to Ampthill RFC, having to succeed a Home Walker Over (HWO). This time round Cambridge had a squad of 17, all buzzing and keen to put into practice what they had learnt at training.

Ampthill arrived with 11 players, and we helped even up the numbers with some of our players agreeing to swap sides. To those Ladies – a massive thank you.

It was a great test for our Women, as Ampthill had very much a forward orientated game, where Cambridge looked to spread the ball wide through the backs, and let loose our runners. Our defence was vastly improved (although we got caught napping for Ampthill’s 2nd try), and it was awesome to really finetune our game plan.

Thank you to Ampthill for the competition and for giving us a game – its what rugby is all about.

A few notable performances

Marnie – meeting the attacker on the gain line and taking the tackles all day long.

Alice – for getting stuck in, both for the opposition and for Cambridge.

Louise and Allegra – 5 tries a piece. They could have shared........

Cheye – 9 conversions – we need to challenge her more and not ALWAYS score under the posts.

Jess and Jess – for both, their first time playing prop (under duress) - well done. See, its not that bad.

All players did brilliantly as Cambridge move onwards and upwards.

AND.......not so notable

Isabel – NO MORE KICKING – managing to put the whole team offside by kicking the ball behind everyone and standing there and watching where it landed – DOH.

Next stop is the return game v Shelford RFC Ladies 2s on Sunday 19th February (2pm) at Shelford.

Put it in the diary.

Still lots to do.
