Ben Penfold has left Cambridge RUFC by mutual consent having decided to explore a coaching opportunity at our neighbouring club Bury St Edmunds. He will be taking up a new position as backs coach and will have some involvement with their community team.
We would like to thank Ben for his positive contributions during his time at the club and the impact he has made coaching our younger players and our Vipers Academy in particular.
Ben comments, “Bizarre writing this to be honest. Cambridge has been a massive part of my life. Somewhere I first played men’s rugby, somewhere I met my wife and will always be in my life. I thank everyone at the club for the past 7 years, from the committee, fans and the players. Hopefully I have influenced a few young players and left a good programme with the Vipers. It wasn’t an easy decision to leave but I’m going to start my coaching career just down the road. Big thanks to Richie over the last few years and to all the other coaches and management staff. I have learnt a lot and had a lot of fun over my time at Cambridge. I’m sure I will be back, in what capacity I’m not sure yet. Look forward to seeing how the results go and good luck for the season.”
