Bishops Stortford RFC

27 - 36

(HT 12-15)

Cambridge RUFC

Cambridge headed to Bishop's Stortford needing to get their season back on track. They knew that awaiting them would be the Ayrton brothers, who after many years service had swapped Blood and Sand for Blue and White. The hosts were flying high having won at Plymouth - who would prevail.

James was first on the scorecard, making an interception and running in a try which was duly converted. Cambridge withstood more early pressure before gaining some control and earning a penalty which Rhodri duel kicked. We then took the lead with an Andy Henderson try, and Rhodri added the extras. More Cambridge pressure led to a try for Ciaran Moore. Mike Ayrton grabbed a try for the hosts just before half time and we went in 12-15 up.

The second half started with more Cambridge pressure and a charge down enabled George Bretag Norris to dot down our third, again converted by Rhodri. From the kick-off, Stortford earned a penalty which they kicked to reduce the deficit.

Cambridge once again camped in the hosts 22 and Alex Rayment drove over for the bonus point. Stortford also saw yellow. More pressure led to a second try for Andy Henderson and the conversion gave us a 15-36 lead with ten minutes to go.

The hosts found a second wind.  Ben Adams saw yellow, Stortford were able to snatch two late tries, one converted by James Ayrton, but it was too little too late and we secured our well deserved victory and the five points and the M11 bragging rights.

We move up to sixth in the table - with the current league leaders Cinderford to visit us on Saturday.
