The long trip to Wymondham paid off with some excellent rugby on Sunday morning. A strong defence from Cambridge kept Wymondham out of the Cambridge try line, however, an offside early on in the Cambridge 22 resulted in Wymondham kicking a penalty for a 3 point lead. Cambridge came back with a penalty of their own from 35 metres out. Cambridge trying to play a fast game, were occasionally slowed by a well drilled Wymondham pack, once into their flow the ball was moved quickly and a number of times only a scramble defence kept Cambridge out.
A strong pack provided some good ball for the backs and a grubber kick through the back line by our fly half allowed the full back to cross the line. The best try of the day was well worked with the forwards playing the ball to the left side of the field, to recycle quickly for the forwards to barrel up again, another quick recycling of the ball went out wide with the winger going over. A strong defence allowed some positive rugby and it was very pleasing to see an impenetrable line of blood and sand holding back some strong running from Wymondham.
It was a pleasure to travel to Wymondham, fantastic club house and very warm welcome. Good luck for the rest of the season and we hope to see you again at the Eastern Counties finals at the end of the season.
